keep on keeping on

School's getting busy lately. Three projects due this week. Which means I had a very dull weekend. I find new media to be a nice break from the daily grind of all my other classes, something I actually fully enjoy. I've been enjoying the creative process. There's alot of introspective thought that goes into it, and it's somewhat calming. Here's an image that I made in Photoshop sometime last year. (Everything's more interesting when there is a visual image). Listening to alot of Damien Rice today. I can never get sick of it.

Self Portrait Assignment

For research for my self-portrait assignment I have been looking at alot of new media artists for some inspiration. I have already started to work on an image. I like how it is turning out so far. This is a digital image that I really like by an artist named Sue Lloyd. I don't think my own self-portrait will be a similar creation, I just thought it was a really cool picture.

Self Portrait

connect to more people, connect less with people

I've never been one to blog. As can be inferred from my title I have a love hate relationship with this technological age we're in, and the internet. The more we rely on electronic modes of communication the more the quality of our communication and real connections we can make with each other diminishes. A certain closeness is lost. Anyways for class I will blog.

I'm 21 years old. I was raised in St. Albert (just outside of Edmonton) and moved to Lethbridge close to two weeks ago for school. All through school (until post secondary) I was in a french immersion program, so I am bilingual. I love alot of music, it keeps me sane. I've played soccer all my life, and growing up have always had in interest in art and drawing. I've recently started to really get back into it and over the last few years have developed a big interest in digital art as well. I also have a passion for travel, and can't wait to be done school for a while so I can pursue it.

After high school I really didn't have a clue as to what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to continue school and education so I went into a general arts program at Grant Macewan College in Edmonton hoping this would give me some insight into where my interests lay. I soon transferred into a business program under some pressure and influence. I transferred to Lethbridge because it allowed me to finish my degree in the shortest amount of time while taking some electives that might interest me. Through this whole process I think I have really found that a career in business is not what I want to do. I like some aspects of my program and I think that I have chosen Marketing as a niche because it allows for the most individual creativity. I'm going to finish this degree because I believe it will be a good stepping stone towards opportunity. I don't think my education will end there.

As far as my career aspirations... well for right now I hope that I can have a job that keeps me interested on a daily basis, that will allow me to grow creatively and independently, and that will provide me with satisfaction and fulfillment in the end.

In this course I wish to learn some new skills in new media applications, as well to grow creatively in the realm of digital art and media, also to gain some insight from my teacher and peers.

I do have access to a digital camera. I love to mess around with photoshop and have the most experience with this application. I have never used dreamweaver or premiere, although I do have some (very little) experience with other video editing applications.

Okay... 3 favorite:

Movies: (Maybe not of all time, but that first come to mind) American Beauty, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (also: me, you, and everyone we know).

Songs: Avalanche - Matthew Good; Faithful Guide - Wintersleep; That dress looks nice on you - Sufjan Stevens; Let down - Radiohead (lots more)

Books: American Gods, Neverwhere, Blindness (currently reading zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance)

Magazines: umm.. I really don't ever read magazines. I don't even know, I guess I kinda like spin (sometimes).
